An introduction to dealing with and managing the media
This introductory session equips participants with practical tools to manage media interactions confidently and effectively. With the evolving media landscape and shrinking newsroom resources, it's more important than ever to understand how media works and how to deliver your message clearly, strategically and with confidence.
This course is designed for business owners or key staff members whose role may have interaction with the media or you may be looking for opportunities to interact with media.

This workshop provides practical, real-world experience to work with and manage media. Participants will gain confidence for ‘when media calls’ and be prepared with assured and concise responses. You’ll learn how to best present yourself for interviews and the different preparation needed e.g. live vs recorded or radio vs camera. Get tips on what not to wear and definitely what not to say!
Duration:
Three hours of interactive and energetic learning where you will boost your confidence in dealing with media and consider seeking out opportunities to interact with media.

Kim has more than 30 years national and international experience in media management, public relations and communications. Her career has spanned guiding tour groups around Europe and the Middle East, to sailing around the world as Shore Excursion Manager aboard a cruise ship converted to an international university. In her beloved home town of Ĺtepoti Dunedin, she has had the privilege of promoting the city to international tourism markets as well as being involved with major events including Rugby World Cup 2011, and Cricket World Cup 2015. As marketing and communications manager for Dunedin Venues, Kim managed the media and public relations stadium liaison for the likes of P!NK, Elton John, Ed Sheeran and Fleetwood Mac as well as multiple sporting events.
