Leadership Edge - Dunedin
Tue 8 April 9:00am - 1:00pm
Training Room, Business South Inc, Level 3, 442 Moray Place, Dunedin
Have you ever wondered why some people seem like they were born to lead, why they know exactly what to do, and how to do it, whilst others struggle, and why they get picked for promotion, whilst others are overlooked time and time again? Until the last few years, landing a leadership role, was often something that came about from just being in the right place at the right time, or being the next in line, or being a mate to the person responsible for the hiring.   There has been this long-held misconception that being highly skilled technically is the gateway to being a great people leader, and that these critical people skills were just a “nice to have” as he or she had proved themselves in their previous role, so people leading was their natural progression.  Nothing is further from the truth.  What organisations are now waking up to is that they need leaders who know what they are expected to do, and have the knowledge and skillset to do it, and who possess the ability to develop and nurture high performing teams that are both motivated and productive.  Leadership Edge was developed to provide emerging and existing leaders with the understanding of what leadership really is, whilst looking at the underlying reasons as to why some people excel and others struggle to progress, and why this understanding can and ultimately give them the edge over the competition.

By the end of this session, you will be able to:
  1. Describe in detail what the real expectations are of being a manager/leader.
  2. Identify the influences, both positive and negative, that shaped you into who you are today as a leader or emerging leader and the impact they had on you.
  3. Identify not only the areas that are holding you back, but also your areas of strength, and how you can develop these strengths to be more effective in your leadership role.
  4. Gain a greater understanding of who you are as a person, and how your emotional intelligence plays a critical part in your success as a leader.

By the end of this session, you will have a knowledge of:
  1. What is required of you and why you need to do it.
  2. Who your role models are and how you can use what you learnt from them to be a better leader.
  3. What the roadblocks that are getting in the way of you becoming a great leader and how your self-awareness will fast track your development.
  4. Your own emotional intelligence and how developing certain areas will speed up your career progression.
