Ms. Neeta Bhushan joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1994. As a career diplomat, she has served in several countries, including Japan, Bangladesh, Germany, the UAE, and the U.S. She has been serving as the High Commissioner of India to New Zealand since September 2022. In addition, she is accredited as the High Commissioner to Niue, the Cook Islands, Vanuatu, and Samoa.
 
Over the past 2.5 years, Ms. Bhushan has focused on strengthening India-New Zealand bilateral relations across various sectors, including political, commerce, defense and security, culture, and people-to-people ties.
 
During her tenure, a significant number of high-level visits and events have taken place, such as:
  1. The visit of External Affairs Minister Hon. Dr. S. Jaishankar to NZ.
  2. Visits by New Zealand's Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Rt. Hon.  Winston Peters, and Trade & Agriculture Minister Hon. Todd McClay to India.
  3. Port calls by three Indian Naval Ships (INS) to NZ.
  4. The visit of India's Minister of State to NZ.
  5. Visit of the Honorable President of India to NZ.
  6. Visit of New Zealand's PM Luxon to India.
  7. Start of negotiations on Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between India and New Zealand.
 
Also, Ms. Bhushan is the first woman to serve as India’s High Commissioner to New Zealand since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1952.
